The begining of AI
Why choose begining? Obviously, AI, whether in technology or concept, did not just appear, but developed through decades of technological accumulation. However, before the launch of ChatGPT, it had remained relatively unknown to the general public, at least in terms of its relevance to their daily lives. But things changed after that. Is this the peak of AI development? Clearly not. Looking back at the development of computers, IBM created the first commercial computer, but it was not IBM that truly popularized it, it was Apple, Microsoft, Dell, and others who brought it to the level of personal computers. I personally think that these two developments are likely to be similar, this is just the beginning, and the best is yet to come. The only difference may be the speed of development. Let’s wait and see.
Which company was behind the previous record? What was the timeframe? TikTok, five months. But it is very clear that they are not the same level of thing. TikTok is essentially a video version of Twitter. Regardless, it still requires people to create content, while now AI can produce this kind of thing entirely on its own. The creation of ChatGPT involves in-depth research in foundational disciplines like AI, but TikTok may have only used some AI algorithm to handle users.
The API price drop left a deep impression on me. Initially, one token was worth about 0.002 dollars, but now the same price can buy 1000 tokens. It instantly crushed the competition. It is rumored that Claude was a formidable opponent to ChatGPT, and to gain an edge, the first version of ChatGPT was rushed.
Then, after market testing, there were many flaws. For example, the calculation level was low, there were errors, and the service availability was not high. Then version 4 came along, which optimized the previous problems and made further improvements, supporting images and text, and increasing the word limit by 8 times (from 4 32k tokens to 3.5 4k).
Of course, I must clarify that I am currently mainly focusing on Microsoft’s products, and have not paid much attention to other products. There are simply too many of them, and I cannot keep up. Moreover, Microsoft’s products are now basically an industry benchmark. It is almost predictable that they will use AI to revolutionize all the industries they are involved in. Furthermore, other people are using Microsoft’s products to help them revolutionize their industries.
With the increasing number of AI products, many barriers in various industries have been broken. In the past, specialized knowledge required extensive training, but now, with AI, one can simply ask a question and get a clear explanation. The best example of this is programming. Since the advent of AI, it has become natural language programming, where AI generates code based on your natural language input. Some people have even tried GPT-4 to write a Telegram bot, and the generated code can be used without debugging. AI can help with writing academic papers, creating presentations, and processing spreadsheets. So, what is it that we need to do? Some people say that there will be a new profession called “prompt engineer. But what behinds the prompts? It is mind or idea. As I can remember a line from V Vedetta: Beneth this mask, there is more than flesh. Beneth this mask There is a mind and a mind is bullet-proof. I love this line. Can I say behind the prompts there is a mind? And a mind is the only proof distinguishing you and AI.
Finally, I would like to mention a few concerns:
Technology itself is neither good nor bad, it is a double-edged sword. Good people can use it to do good things, while bad people can use it for evil. Of course, we want to use it to improve our quality of life, and not to be used to destroy it. For example, some people may use ChatGPT to generate spam or phishing emails, which is easy and convenient, and difficult to distinguish. Some may use AI to generate academic papers for illegal profits. This prompted the development of applications such as ZeroGPT, specifically designed to vet AI-generated content, and some institutions have completely banned the use of AI. If everything is generated by AI, where is the value of an individual’s work, especially in an academic institution? So, some institutions have reacted to this development.
Currently, AI models like GPT are trained on internet data, so some people say that if you have ChatGPT, you have a concentrated version of the internet. However, as this AI technology advances, it will become easier and more convenient to generate content, text, images, or videos. This means that there will be more and more AI-generated content on the internet, which may affect future model training, and have a significant impact on our internet content and lives. WIll the internet qulity will degrade with this AI gererated things around? How shall we human do?
